ADS131E08: why we have dedicated VREFN that is suggested to be connected to AVSS?

Part Number: ADS131E08

Hi,

in the datasheet PIN FUNCTION page 6, it's written:

VREFN: Analog input Negative reference voltage. Connect to AVSS

This should be applicable for both internal reference and external reference, right?

Why don't we name VREFN directly to be AVSS?

  • Howard,

Often, both the reference positive and negative inputs to the ADC will be brought out to pins. This can be used to avoid reference errors caused by ground loops on the system board. Using a direct connection from the VREFP and VREFN to the reference will be the most accurate. This is similar to a 4-wire or Kelvin connection measurement.
