ADS1298: Respiratory system external interface

Part Number: ADS1298
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1292R, ADS1292

Hi,

I have been developing software on a ADS1298RECG-FE PDK so far. However, since it is only available in a BGA package, I am trying to evaluate the possibility of using ADS1298 with external circuitry - I found this mentioned on the datasheet of ADS1298; that it is possible to interface respiration by means of external circuitry. Will appreciate leads on how this can be done.
Thanks.

  • Hi Sudarshan,

It is certainly possible to implement respiration by means of external circuitry, but I do not believe we have any designs that demonstrate this.

Have you considered using a ADS1292R for the respiration measurement? It comes in a TQFP or VQFN package.

This application note goes into detail about how the respiration measurement is implemented: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/sbaa181/sbaa181.pdf

  • Hello Sudarshan,

Just to clarify - the "external respiration circuitry" discussed in section 9.3.1.7.8.1 only refers to the internal timing control signals used by the respiration feature in the ADS129xR devices. These internal timing signals can be output and used with external respiration circuitry, which as Alex mentioned, we do not have examples of. However, if you used a non-R version of the device (i.e. ADS1292, ADS1298), those respiration timing signals would not be available to you for use with an external respiration measurement circuit.

If you require respiration capability (internal or external) and you cannot use a BGA package, then the ADS1292R in the TQFP or QFN package is your only option.

    Best regards,
