ADS8688AEVM-PDK: Can I access the files from SD card inserted at the back side of capture card without using GUI?

Part Number: ADS8688AEVM-PDK

Hello sir,

Actually I was about to use this EVM,I have a slight doubt regarding capture board. Without running the respective GUI, data logging from analog devices to adc then to store in SD card is possible?

Thanks

  • The micro SD card on the EVM contains software files, if these files are deleted or altered, then the EVM will not be able to work with the communications card.

If you plan to use the micro SD card for anything else, be aware that you will not be able to go back to use the GUI available.

The EVM also does not provide resources to connect to the SD card. In other words, if you were planning to use your own software and send information to the SD card, you will need to make modification to access the micro SD card.

  • Hi Cynthia,

If I will not delete and alter any file in SD card then can I store the adc data in SD card without using GUI?

I want to use the adc and capture card for flight purpose, that's why I am asking is it possible without GUI?? Do you know any device which can perform like this?

    Thanks

  •  There is no direct way to do this

Without the GUI, the device will not perform conversions, it needs digital input indicators to function.  Unless you are providing these signals through other means than the provided GUI, then you need the SD card for the GUI.

If you are trying to access the SD card without connecting the communications card to the EVM, the SD card is not accessible. There is no means for the EVM to connect to the SD card slot. all connections to the SD card go to the connector for the communications card.

If you have software and hardware that runs the ADC, completes conversion, then has hardware access the SD card, and stores the data from the converter. Than yes, this is possible. but the EVM and communications card were not set up to do that.

You can access the raw output data from the GUI, and use as you need.

  • Hello Cynthia,

Thank-you for clarify the doubt. Can I use microcontroller like Arduino and disable the processor of  software side of EVM and write the code in arduino and store data to capture card? Is it possible ? Or can you suggest any devices which has high speed ADC and we can store data without using GUI , means we will burn the code and it will automatically store the data?

  • Yes, if you connect to the EVM through your own processor, then the memory card is no longer needed and can be used for what you wish. At the end of the Users Guide, the schematic for the EVM is available. The memory card is connected to J20. You will need to connect to this jumper to access the card.

There is no EVM that can do what you want out of the box. The GUIs available for our EVMs can provide data by exporting it from the GUI, but you need to manually do that.

To store any output data from any ADC device, the processor is needed to implement that, there is no device that does that on its own.
