ADS127L01: ADC chip with similar noise performance but with 4 independent output channels

Part Number: ADS127L01
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1274,

Dear TI technical/application engineer,

I have been using ADS127L01 for a single strain gauge application and I am quite satisfied with the noise performance. I am now looking for an ADC chip with four channels since I would like to measure 4 different voltages. I came across ADS1274 which supports 4 simultaneous measurement. I wonder if this chip's noise performance is comparable to that of ADS127L01. I am also open to other alternatives if any.

Thank you in advance

Yudha

  • Hello Yudha,

I assume you need the wideband brickwall filter.  If this is the case, then the ADS1274 is the best 4 channel option in the 24b family.

Looking at the datasheets, running the ADS1274 in high speed mode with Fclk>=27MHz is similar to ADS127L01 operating with the WB2 filter, OSR=128, and Fclk=16.384MHz.

    Shorted input noise

    ADS1274, 8.5uVrms

    ADS127L01, 5.1uVrms

    SNR

    ADS1274, 106dB

    ADS127L01, 110.9dB

The ADS127L01 supports a daisy chain connection for multiple ADC's.  Since you are already familiar with this device, you could use 4 each of these with one SPI daisy chain connection to your host MCU.  The START pin can be used to synchronize the 4 devices in the system.
