TSW14J56EVM: Firmware customization and implementing user DSP algorithm.

Part Number: TSW14J56EVM

Hello,

I have purchased TSW14J56 evaluation board combined with ADS54J20 to test and use with a LiDAR system. So far, I have used the functions provided by with the HSDC software and the ADC GUI, and everything seems to work properly.

Now, I would need to move forward. And to do so, I need to modify the firmware provided with the board (TSW14J56RevD Respin Fw.qar). My question is:

1) Is it possible to modify/customize the firmware and recompile for use?

2) Is it possible to develop and apply some DSP algorithm with the captured data before transfer to the PC?

3) Is it possible to make multiple custom triggers to start and stop data capture and transfer?

4) Is it possible to develop some custom interface/port to communicate with standalone firmware?

It can be mentioned that I have already restored the firmware provided with TSW14J56EVM (TSW14J56RevD Respin Fw.qar) and have no idea about how to proceed with that source files as I am new to FPGA and so far I understand only the source files are provided not complete project. Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,

Dipak Kumar

  • Hi Dipak,

I believe that the answer to all of your questions is Yes. Unfortunately, I am not able to help with the firmware development for your system.

This reference design, while uses a different ADC and FPGA (still Alterra), may be of some use to your design.

  • Dan,

    Thanks for your response.

Actually my preliminary concern is to develop FPGA (Possibly verilog). Since I am new to FPGA, quite unsure about how to begin with the board. So, my target is to start with modifying existing firmware of the evaluation board and implementing some DSP algorithm for signal processing (Modifying existing firmware). Can you please help me in this regard or any reference / guide to follow?

Thanks again for your kind reply.

    Regards

    Dipak

  • Hi Dipak,

While I would like to help in this regard, we do not currently have a LIDAR reference design that would help with the FPGA part of the system. Due to the countless applications that can be realized with an FPGA, we cannot currently provide direct assistance in firmware development, so my suggestion is to contact the FPGA vendor and use their online resources.
