ADS8556: Configuration in software mode.

Part Number: ADS8556

I am trying to get the ADC working in software mode after a successful attempt in the hardware mode. As the datasheet mentions that initially the configuration register by default has the value 0X000003FF, I didn't write anything to the register and only toggled the Conversion start of channel pair A high. But the BUSY pin didn't go high like its supposed to when conversion start goes high. Kindly help me to get the ADC to work in software mode.

  • Hi Flourisha PCG,

In software mode, ADS8556 operates with functionality set only by the control register(CR), however the Channel pair A/B/C are disabled for the conversion with default setting in CR, so the CR should be updated properly according to the bit setting in table 5 and the timing in Figure 42.

    Thanks&regards,

    Dale

  • Thank you for the help. Now I have set the control register value as 0xFE0007FF. But now the busy pin toggles only for one conversion for the next conversion start its again not going high. But if i reset the ADC and write the value to the control register again then the busy pin is toggling. As per this Control Register setting I have made C10( CLKOUT_EN ) bit as 1, but I'm not able to see any clock signal on pin 27, the pin is always high.

  • Hi Flourisha PCG,

Can you please show me your captured timing plot regarding Figure 42 in the data sheet? note that the register content will be updated in next frame and an additional CONVST signal is required.

    Thanks&regards,

    Dale

  • Hi Flourisha PCG,

I hope you have solved the problem since I did not receive your response after 3 weeks, this thread  will be closed. Thanks
