ADS7142: Manual Mode Clocking

Part Number: ADS7142

With the ADS7142 in Manual Mode,  the data sheet and clocking figure for Manual Mode (Figure 56) indicate the SCL clock should be continuous to continue with conversions. We assume this means a I2C Restart command should not be sent between data samples. Is this correct?

What happens if a Restart is sent? Does the device respond similar to a Stop command?

  • Hello,

In this mode, looking at the figure, there is no need to send a Restart. You have the option to, but it will not affect the communication, and you will still get the conversion results, but it is not necessary to do a Restart, but you can.

As for the continuous clock, you only need to send clock when actual communication is on going. The optional clock stretching displayed in the figure is to demonstrate that the master will still communication with the device even though there has not been anything on a the bus for a while.

    Regards
