DAC8750EVM: DAC8750EVM

Part Number: DAC8750EVM

I tried to install eval. board s/w in September, got pulled out to another project.

I keep getting error messages.

I uninstalled whatever NI s/w was on the computer, and tried to reinstall (as administrator) DACX750EVM-SW s/w I downloaded from TI site. I am getting this error message

Can you help?

  • Michael,

We built this installer with the built-in NI LabVIEW tools. Reading through the error message, this appears to be some kind of temporary file that would be related to the NI Installer. As such, we do not really possess the expertise to debug something related to the internal mechanics of the NI installer. Have you made a request to NI?

I do not wish to be unhelpful, but as I have mentioned I don't know enough about the internal behavior of this installer script, so I cannot really comment.

My best suggestion would be to ensure that you have administrative privileges on your PC and/or select "Run as Administrator" on the installer executable to ensure that you have access to each folder and sub-folder to successfully run the installer.

  • Hi Kevin,

I did uninstall anything resembling NI software before running as administrator TI software I downloaded last week.

I wonder if there are different versions of demo s/w (on CD and online)...

I will try to contact NI. Can you send me an installation CD (I do not remember seeing one in the box demo board came in)?

    Thank you

    Michael

  • I do not think anything will come out of communicating with NI. They require some sort of service agreement ("A valid service agreement may be required...") we do not have and I am not sure what to ask for in the discussion forums (there are many of those)

  • Hi Michael,

I noticed that you are running the installer from an "F:\" drive, but installing it onto your "C:\" drive.  Can you try copying the installer onto the C:\ drive before launching it? I suspect there might be permissions on this PC preventing it.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Thank you for the suggestion. Just tried it - same error message.

Asked TI for CD that comes with the demo board - haven't heard from them yet.    :o(

  • Michael,

Paul is a TI employee. He was responding in my place as I was out of office last week.

We no longer create installation discs for our EVMs, but the source material would have been exactly the same on either medium. We just stopped producing the CDs since it had the potential to create confusion when any piece of SW was updated but old stock of EVMs may still exist in distribution centers.

I am running out of ideas to fix this but one other thing that came to mind was perhaps trying the raw source files if you have a LabVIEW installation. Some time ago I posted some of this material on SourceForge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/dacx760sw/

  • Hi Kevin,

I did not know that Paul is with TI...

I do not have LabView installation, I have never used LV. I copied the demo board schematic to my design. I would like to play with it before finishing this design.

Any additional ideas about how to get it up and running would be appreciated.

Is there a chance that this s/w does not like Windows7?

    Thanks

    Michael

  • Michael,

The GUI was not developed with Windows 7 as a target platform, however I have used the GUI myself on a number of Windows 7 PCs and seen the GUI successfully installed with others.

I will continue to stew on what else we can try.

  • Hi Michael,

I have seen a few posts about this same error over at NI's website, and most users have found it to be related to file corruption or disk corruption.  Not sure if you have tried this already, but can you go to TI.com and download another copy of the installer to your C:\ drive, then unzip it to your C:\ drive, then try installing again?

I tested the installer on my machine so I do not think it is corrupted on TI.com.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

I uninstalled whatever TI and NI s/w was on the test computer; downloaded TI s/w (root directory, as opposed to desktop folder; not that it matters), installed. Everything went well. Tried to run the software. Back to square one.

    ???

    Thank you for your help

    Michael

  • Hi Michael,

This is interesting, as the runtime engine should install with the EVM software.  Did you choose not to install any specific module when you installed the EVM software (I don't think there is really an option, but just checking)?

    1. Try restarting the PC, if you haven't already. Then try the software again.

    2. Try running the DAC8750EVM installer one more time, if everything is already installed it will basically say something like "there is already the same or newer version installed".

    3. Try installing the runtime engine separately:  https://www.ni.com/en-us/support/downloads/software-products/download.labview.html#306228

Let me know if that works.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Michael,

    Any updates?

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

I have not had a chance to spend time on this thing yet. I will try to get to it today or tomorrow.

    Thanks

    Michael

  • Michael,

    Any news?

  • None.

I haven't had time to work on it as priorities changed. I hope to get back to it sometime later.

    Thanks

    Michael
