High speed ADC output data conversion

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28335

Hi team,

The processor used by the customer is TMS320F28335. The customer needs to collect 8-channel pulse voltage signal with the signal frequency of 20-400KHZ. If there are 40 sampling points per cycle, the sampling rate should be above 16MSPS. The 16 channel ADC sampling rate of TMS320F28335 can not meet the design requirements, so it needs to be connected with an external ADC chip. The data output form of TI ADC chip that meets the requirements is LVDS. TMS320F28335 has no LVDS interface. Is there any way to make TMS320F28335 receive LVDS signal output by ADC?

Best Regards,
Amy Luo

  • Amy,

I would not recommend trying to emulate an LVDS receiver using the ADC.  This will be very error prone.

Also, you mentioned that the external ADC sampling rate exceeds the F28335 sampling rate.  I do not see how the F28335 ADC could keep up with the digitized data rate when the mixed signal ADC interface is already too slow...  Am I missing something?

  • Amy,

Do you have any follow up information or questions?

  • Hello Tommy,

    Thanks for your response.

Can a converter be added to enable TMS320F28335 to receive LVDS signal?

  • Amy,

I assume that there are LVDS converters that might work.  However, I think the problem would still center around the IO bandwidth.  You mentioned that the sampling rate is 16MSPS.  How many bits per sample would this be?  It would be best to first define the required throughput and then see if there is any peripheral available in the C2000 family to support the speeds.

Also, what is the role of the C2000 device in this system?

  • Amy,

It has been a while since your last update.  I assume that you were able to resolve your issue.

If not, please reply to this thread.  If the thread has locked due to timeout, please create a new thread describing the current status of your issue.
