AFE5818: Register settings and reference materials

Dear all,

I would like to ask the following questions.

[Question 1]
After turning on the power, the item to be set in the register of this IC is that the data sheet must be written to bits 2 and 4 in Section 10.4 (Initial Setup). Are there any other required items?

[Question 2]
There is a description such as Must Write 0 for the bit where the definition of the register of this IC is described, but there is no definition, but is it necessary to write even if it is the same as the Reset value? .

[Question 3]
Currently, the data sheet “SBAS687B-FEBRUARY 2015-REVISED AUGUST 2015” is being referenced. Can you tell me if there is any document that contains information about this IC other than "SBAS687B-FEBRUARY 2015-REVISED AUGUST 2015"?

    Regarding your questions:

    1. There are no other required register settings.

    2. It is not required to write 0 if the bits are not modified after reset.

    3. The datasheet references all the relevant information needed. There is no other separate documentation.

    from its page 12, it explains in detail how to setup and run AFE5818 device.

    So the customer can understand quickly.

  • Hi Y. Ottey,

    How are you? Thanks for helping the customer using AFE5818 device.

    For the AFE5818 initialization setup, 

    it needs: (You can see the statements from AFE5818 Datasheet page 82,

    and also AFE5818 User's Guide page 12)

    After turn on the power, please do the following two RESET

    1) Hardware RESET: (if you are using EVM board, please press on AFE_RST Hardware RESET button.

    also please hold this button at least 100ns long.)

    2) Software RESET:  by setting the register 1's (bit 2 and bit 4) to "1=high" (by using SPI)

    Then all the register values will be RESETed to Default Mode (all are defined on the Datasheet as you see from the datasheet).

    Also the current AFE5818 SBAS687B - FREBRUARY 2015 - REVISED AUGUST 2015 is the newest Datasheet right now.

    Please let the customer know.

    Thank you for your reply.

    I would like to ask additional questions.

    When our customer sampled (40MHz) with must write = '1' (bit = 4, bit = 2) of register 1 below not writing well, 0 is output every other sample, Jagged output data can be seen.
    Example: 100, 0, 80, 0, 5, 0, -10, 0, -60, 0 ...
    (The output data range is -2048 to 2047)


    Please answer the following questions:

    1. If register 1 must write = '1' (bit = 4, bit = 2) could not be written successfully, is there any abnormality in the output data?

    2. If a customer inputs sine waves as analog data, do you see output data that they are currently checking?
    If there is a possible factor other than register setting, please let me know.

  • Hi,

    The register 1 must be written = '1' (@ bit = 4 and bit = 2) as the datasheet mentioned,

    if they are not been written successfully, then the frame clock will not work

    and either input signal is sine wave or others,  the output data won't be correct.

    So please follow the datasheet's conditions.
