AFE58JD18EVM: Reg AFE58JD18 Evaluation Kit Purchase

Part Number: AFE58JD18EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE58JD18, TSW14J57EVM, AFE5818EVM

I'm planning to use AFE58JD18 in one of the project. Before incorporating the same, i would like to evaluate the same. In AFE58JD18 product page, link for its evaluation card is given (AFE58JD18EVM). But in Hardware Features section of AFE58JD18EVM, it is given that use either TSW14J56EVM or TSW1400EVM for data capture. But both has 8 data lane support only, where as AFE58JD18EVM gives 16 output. From ti site, i could find TSW14J57EVM.

1) Please clarify whether  TSW14J57EVM will support AFE58JD18EVM ?

2) Will HSDCPro software support TSW14J57EVM ?

3) Is there any 16 channel LVDS capture card (with software support) available ?

4) Do i need any license for using above mentioned evaluation cards (AFE58JD18EVM,TSW1400EVM,TSW14J56EVM ,TSW14J57EVM ) ?

5) Is capture software and AFE software free ?

6) Will EVM (TSW14J57EVM,AFE58JD18EVM etc) is provided with its own AC power adapters ?

Please reply asap.

  • Hi,

First could you please follow the TI website as:

    http://www.ti.com/product/AFE58JD18

Then please look at "! More Information"

and "Full data sheet and other design resources are available under NDA. Request now"

Then you can receive all the information you are looking for.

    for your questions as:

AFE58JD18EVM is provided to be used to connect to:

    TSW1400EVM for LVDS Interface

    and TSW14J56EVM for JESD204B Interface.

(note: TSW14J57EVM is not used and not supported for AFE58JD18EVM)

    Using TSW1400EVM connected to AFE58JD18EVM,

you can receive 16 channel LVDS data.

Also you can register (shown above from the link from the website,

you can receive the software (you will get this license) as you mentioned.

Also I will ask your question about the AC power adapters

    and let you know soon.

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Chen

Thanks for the reply. Please let me know about AC power options.

  • Hi,

replying to your AC power options question,

    Here is the answer:

No we don’t provide the AC power adapters.

Only the power connector cable is provided.

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Chen

In case of TSW1400EVM , it is mentioned in user guide that +5V with 4A capacity should be the power input specification. But in AFE58JD18EVM, this is not mentioned but only mentioned that "The kit consistsof (1) AFE58JD18EVM,(2) Power Cable, and (3) a USB cable". Can you share detailed AFE58JD18EVM userguide.

  • Hi,

    For your question,

actually TSW1400EVM and AFE58JD18EVM are from different groups,

so their policies may not totally the same.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Chen

In slou430a.pdf it is mentioned "Power Supply: A barrel connector power cable is provided with the EVM and is connected at J1, but does not support the –5 V needed for the CW mode or Vcntl circuit. This requires an additional cable, not provided. This 5-V power supply must be able to source up to 2 A, and –5-V supply must provide up to 1 A. The –5-V supply is used for the negative supply of amplifiers in the CW output external circuitry and Vcntl circuit. The TSW1400 EVM is powered through a power cable similar to Figure 2 that is provided with its own EVM kit. " . Please clarify whether board works without -5V.

Please suggest an evaluation board which can source +5V & -5V from 12V DC

Please loop the responsible engineer for AFE58JD18EVM .

    Thanks

    Bivin

  • Hi,

    How are you?

Could you please let us know if you mentioned slou430a.pdf (is from AFE5818EVM) right?

If yes, please look at on its Page 8:

    it mentions:

    ================

Connect the white-striped side of this cable to the 5-V power supply. Optionally, connect a –5-V (1-A) supply at J3 or TP3 if using the CW or Vcntl circuit. No cable is provided for this.

    ===============

    So yes, you are correct.

When using AFE58JD18EVM, if you just have not been using (please disable CW mode and disable Vcnt mode) yet,

you can just only connect the white-striped side of cable with +5V power supply only.

If you want to use both CW and Vcnt, then you need to use different power cable to connect to your own power supply

all +5V, GND, & -5V at the same time.

    Thanks!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi,

Yes, we will provide this question to our engineer

and will reply to you soon.

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi,

    Our engineer replied:

    For your "+5V & -5V from 12V DC ":

    ==========

They can use any cable for -5V.

     TI doesn’t supply that.

    ==========

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Chen

    1) In figure 3 of user guide slou430a , it is shown that TSW1400EVM is provided with 2A current (+5V) but in TSW1400EVM datasheet it is 4A. Please clarify.

    2) In the same figure, it is given that AFE58XX1XEVM is provided with +5V with 2A $ -5V with 1A. Can i consider same power requirement for AFE58JD18EVM ? Please share detailed AFE58JD18EVM userguide.

  • Please reply

  • Hi,

    for the question 1):

    When you are using AFE58JD18EVM,

you need to refer its own users guide slou378

(Not slou430a) since it does not specify the current for TSW1400EVM

therefore please refer to TSW1400EVM datasheet from TI website link:

    focus.ti.com/.../tsw1400evm.html

    for your question 2:

    from the AFE58JD18EVM users guide,

you can see the power requirement for AFE58JD18EVM

is provided with +5V with 2A and -5V with 1A.

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Chen
