TSW14J57EVM: sequencer power fail led on

Part Number: TSW14J57EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS54J69EVM, ADS54J69

We have used the TSW14J57EVM revE with ADS54J69EVM revD. Both evms worked fine for a day but after saving the ADC raw binary data file, the LED: PWR FAIL D16 turned ON.  I have power off but led always led D16 always turns ON when the power switch SW3 is turned ON. The evm is also using 1.6A to 1.7A from the 12V power supply. This is higher current than when it was operating normally. All the power and configuration leds are ON, indicating that the voltages monitored are correct.

Is there probable cause for this problem?  or a sequence of troubleshooting steps to see if the problem can be determined?

  • Ted,

This sounds like a hard failure. If you bought this from a distributor, you will have to work with them to get a replacement. If you bought it from the TI Store, the following link has the details and a link to the form to start the return process.  Once you are on the returns and refunds page of the TI Store look for the hyperlink which says: TI store customer support form.

  • Thank you for your reply Jim. You are correct, the data capture module continues for fail. The Power Fail LED has turned off when powered up, but unit fails to load the ADC configuration file.

  • Ted,

Have you tried to increase the current of the 12V input supply? The supply should be able to provide at least 3 Amps.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Jim,

The power supply I am using is a supply with outputs 12V, 3A and 5V, 3A, so that was not the problem. I tried an alternate supply and the capture boarded responded the same.

Since I am on a schedule to evaluate the ADS54J69 adc, before we can select it for one of our products, I submitted a return request form to TI and bought another TSW14J57 from a distributor. That is working fine.  The current draw appears to 1.12A from the 12V and 1.18A from the 5V after I have loaded the configuration files and captured data.

    Thanks for you inputs though.

  • Hello Jim

Thank you for your help on this issue and others that i have posted.

Do you know how I can find the status of a customer request form that I submitted?

    Your return has been submitted

Perhaps you can point me to a website or a phone number that I can call.

Thank you for any help, I realize that this is not your area for responsibility, but hopefully you can lead me to the one who can help.
