ADS131A04: Sampling Rate

Part Number: ADS131A04

Hi Team,

The datasheet of ADS131A04 says the maximum sampling rate is 128kSPS. A customer wants to confirm if the sampling rate is 128kSPS per channel or 128kSPS for all 4 channels.

If 128kSPS is the sampling rate for all 4 channels, what is the maximum sampling rate per channel?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Danilo,

This device has four independent ADC that each sample at 128ksps,  All four devices will simultaneously convert the results.  So, each second the host will receive 128,000 samples x 4.  This is how all simultaneous sampling devices work.

The customer probably had some experience with multiplexed devices in the past.  For a four channel 128ksps multiplexed device you would receive 128,000 x 1 samples in 1 second.  So the effective sampling rate for all four channels on a multiplexed device is 128k/4 =  32 ksps.

Thus, for simultaneous sampled devices (like ADS131A04), you do not need to divide by the number of channels like you do for multiplexed devices.

    I hope this helped.

  • Hi Art,

Thank you for your clear explanation.
