ADS1262EVM-PDK: PGA positive rail fault

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1262

art Number: ADS1262EVM-PDK

Dear Technical Support Team,

If AD conversion settings are following conditions, an error "PGA positive rail fault" appeared.

AVDD = 5V

On Board CLK

PGA bypass

Level Shift ON (2.5V)

FIR Filter, 20SPS,

Chop mode OFF

Calibration OFF

AINP / AINN = AIN0

Reference = AVDD (5V)

Setting "PGA to x1" instead of "PGA bypass" doesn't occur the error.

According to the datasheet 37 page, I think that the detection method is same both 1x and bypass.

So I don't understand why the error occurs when PGA  bypass

I attached data capture and register map and output log when an error occurs.

Best Regards,

  • Hi ttd,

    I would have expected the opposite to be true - that you would get the flag when the PGA is enabled, but not when the PGA is bypassed. It seems like you are trying to use the VBIAS feature to set AINP/AINN to 2.5V? However, please note that the VBIAS feature is applied to the AINCOM pin only. The image below from the register map confirms as such. So if you are setting AINP and AINN to AIN0, the VBIAS feature is not doing anything as you have configured your device.

    Therefore, it is not clear what absolute voltage is on the AIN0 pin, but it is probably close to 0V. With the PGA enabled (PGA = 1), the device requires a few 100 mV of headroom to operate as shown from the ADS1262 design calculator below. Note that the red cells indicate the input to the PGA is out of range, which results in the error message you are seeing.

    When the PGA is not enabled (PGA = Bypass), there are no headroom requirements as shown below. Note that the green cells indicate the input to the PGA is not out of range, so you will not get the error message.

    Let me know if this helps explain the issue you are seeing
