ADS1158: offset drift specification parameter

Part Number: ADS1158
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA227,

The data sheet indicates the offset parameter and offset drift (- LSB, 1uV/C). The comments on the table indicate that bipolar power and OPA227 buffer are used. Thus, it is not clear what offset the ADC has without a buffer and without a CHOP mode (CHOP=0).

My scheme: a unipolar signal, a single-ended buffer with a unipolar supply voltage.

Thank!

  • Hi Andrey,

Thanks for your question regarding the ADS1158. We don't test every combination of ADC settings and parameters, so in this case we do not have data for the specific configuration you are requesting. Usually we choose the most common configuration, which in this case were the settings described above the electrical characteristics table

The ADS1158 allows you short the ADC inputs together and measure the offset if you'd like to characterize your specific situation. There is a channel you can use in auto-scan mode (OFFSET bit in register SYSRED), or you can short the inputs to the mux externally and use the BYPAS bit in the CONFIG0 register. Using either of these methods can you help characterize the offset of just the ADC by itself, and also potentially over temperature.
