ADS1291: Assistance in understanding Data Structure

Hi all!

I am a university student from Carnegie Mellon and this is my first time with Texas Instruments. I am working with a professor of mine and I need to understand how to input data (eg a simple sine wave) and receive the output. I wish to understand the data structure of the chip but I am super new to this. Can somebody help? Which software can I use for this? Matlab? something else? I have to parse the output data into bits afterwards as well. Please help.

Hello Alex!

Thanks for your reply. The FAQ does help a lot. However, I still have questions regarding on how to connect my chip and input the data through it. I was planning to order one of the chips. How do I connect it? Like what hardware do I need? And do I then use MATLAB to input my sine wave?

Hi Spandan,

You would need a signal generator to generate a sine wave.

Since it sounds like you are just starting out, I would start by ordering a PDK to get familiar with circuits:

Take a look at the user's guide for an example schematic. Please not that this is for the ADS1298, a similar device. This PDK is more user friendly than the ADS1292.
