DAC60096EVM: Can not program DAC60096EVM board, Not detected, No output

Part Number: DAC60096EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC7836EVM, DAC60096

Hi,

I recently bought a DAC60096EVM board. I followed all instructions in the user guide for DAC60096EVM and also SDM-USB-DIGPlatform but unfortunately, I could not get any output. All the procedures explain as below and I attached pictures from hardware and configuration:

  1. I updated the SDM-USB-DIG Platform driver suggested by TI technician in one of the forums.
  2. +12v and -12v are connected to the board.
  3. JP1 is configured on Pins 2-3.
  4. JP2 is configured on Pin 2-3.
  5. All GND connected to the ground.

But when I open GUI, it shows demo mode, and then when unchecked Demo from debug menu it shows hardware connected but no change on the board when you program it. D2 LED on the SDM-USB-DIG Platform is off the only D1 LED working. No output from any of pins when we configured the DAC.

Please let me know what is the issue? do we need any other configuration or connection?

  • Hi,

Couple of issues may be preventing the EVM board communication. Do the following to get the hardware in connected state.

    1. Unplug the SDM-USB-DIG and close the GUI.

    2. Reconnect the SDM-USB-DIG, and ensure that the connectors are correctly aligned.

    3. Verify the USB extender cable is properly connected to both the SDM-USB-DIG and PC, and relaunch the GUI.

This issue can also occur if the CDC driver is installed incorrectly, and so the DAC60096EVM software may need to be reinstalled

After writing into registers, did you press the LDAC button?

    Regards,

    AK

  • Hi AK,

I did all below procedures on 2 computers (to make sure windows are healthy) to get hardware in connected state:

    1. Installed SDM-USB-DIG driver.
    2. Installed GUI.
    3. Connect SDM-USB-DIG to the EVM board.
    4. Connect extender cable to SDM-USB-DIG.
    5. connect extender cable to the PC.
    6. Program the board with LDAC button.

But again on both computer GUI didn't detect DAC board and it showed demo mode. and when I unchecked demo from debug option and program the board with values in register A and LDAC button, no output on Pins. I change  different values in buffer A and B but again no luck.

    Regards,

  • Please try this:

    1. Close the software

    2. Disconnect the SDM-USB-DIG from the EVM board.

    3. Disconnect the SDM-USB-DIG from the PC and then reconnect.  Do not connect the DIG back to the EVM.

    4. Launch the software- does it start in DEMO mode? Does the second LED turn on?

If it does turn on, then we probably have a power issue on the EVM that is preventing the EVM from working.  If it does not, then we either have a problem with the SDM-USB-DIG or the software on your PC.  As the SDM-USB-DIG is discovered by the PC, I do not think this is a driver issue.

    Please also try the following:

    1. Download and install the AMC7836EVM software.  This is a different device, but it uses the same SDM-USB-DIG.  Please launch this software as well with the SDM-USB-DIG connected to the PC but not the EVM hardware.  Does the LED turn on now?

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

    Thanks for your reply.

I did all steps from 1 to 4 exactly as you requested but at the end LED didn't turn on and also software start in demo mode.

After installed AMC7836EVM software and then connect the SDM-USB-DIG to the software LED turned on and also  AMC7836EVM software shows green connected.

So what is your suggestion for SDM-USB-DIG works with DAC60096EVM GUI?

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,

I check again the DAC60096EVM GUI. After I installed AMC7836EVM software I didn't uninstall it just run DAC GUI and surprisingly it detect hardware without any issue and also LED goes on. Even I got output voltage from the board.

Is it possible explain what kind of the driver AMC7836EVM software installed and why GUI software couldn't installed it?

    Regards

  • Hi,

I have another problem, I try to use python script but GUI show me error "Pythone 2.7 not detected. Please install python 2.7 to use scripting". I already install python 2.7.18 with IDLE and its on windows path.

    Thanks,

    Regards,

  • Hi Mahmood,

Good to hear that the GUI is now working.  I will have to look into why the original had an issue installing the driver.  One thing that comes to mind is that the AMC7836EVM installer was recently re-compiled, so it might have better Windows 10 support (I assume that is what you are using).

Can you launch the DAC60096 GUI as an administrator - does that change the python functionality?  I will look into this as well.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

I am happy too that my GUI now is working. You are right, if the AMC7836EVM installer was recently re-compiled for sure it has extra dll file or driver for windows 10. I try to find a windows 7 PC and installed GUI on it to check that GUI works on windows 7 or not (Just for education purpose to help others) and I will post the result here.

For python, I always run the software as administrator but  problem still there and it show me that error.

  • Hi Paul,

I created a YouTube video how to install and configure DAC60096EVM. if you like you can use as reference to help others.

    Best Regards

  • Hi,

Thanks for making video. It will really help others.

  • Hi AK,

Thanks for your kind reply. Just I want to know do you have any solution to solve the python problem?
