ADS1299: Using a digital switch between electrode and ADC

Part Number: ADS1299

We have 1 x ADS1299-8 on our PCB which is used to measure EEG.

We would like to allow for more than 8 channels on our EEG headset.

Is it possible to have a digital switch (multiplexor) between the electrode and the ADC to select the desirable channels?  Are there any negative implications of having a switch?

  • Hi Faisal,

This would be fine, as long as you are OK with non-simultaneously sampled data. Having a digital switch on the inputs will require a period of time to pass after switching before taking data again so that the digital filter can settle. If you would like to take data simultaneously, I would recommend daisy-chaining or cascading multiple ADS1299-8's.
