Part selection for ADC

Hi all,

I wanted to use ADC ic which is capable of using both 0-10v and 4-20mA (I or V) with minimum of 48.2ksps and above, more than 12bit resolution. Can anyone help me out to select the right part for the above requirements?

Thanks and Regards

  • Hi Meghana,

Please check out our ADS86xx products. We offer multi-channel and single-channel versions:

    • ADS8664 / ADS8668 = 12-bit, 4/8-ch, 500kSPS SAR ADCs w/ bipolar input on a +5V supply
    • ADS8665 / ADS8661 = 12-bit, 1-ch, 500 / 1250-kSPS SAR ADCs w/ bipolar input on a +5V supply

All of these devices have 14-bit, 16-bit, and 18-bit options as well. They also accept up to +/-10V directly on a single +5V supply.

For the 4-20mA measurement, you would use a shunt resistor (typically 250 ohm) and measure the voltage across the shunt to correlate to a current.

You can check out this reference design for more info on taking V and I measurements with the ADS86xx products: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIPD166

Let me know if you have any more questions about these ADCs.
