ADS122U04: Difference between ADS122U04 and ADS1220?

Part Number: ADS122U04
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1220, , ADS122C04

Hi Expert,

Can you help clarify the difference between ADS122U04 and ADS1220?

Is digital interface the only difference? (ADS122U04 UART, ADS1220 SPI)? If not, any other upgrade spec in ADS122U04 than ADS1220?

Thank you!

Rachel

  • Hi Rachel,

The primary difference is the digital interface, but there are a few other differences as well.  The ADS122U04 does not have a provision for an external clock, but does have an external RESET pin.  The ADS1220 has a low-side switch that can be used for applications where you would want to break sensor excitation (such as with a bridge sensor).  The ADS122U04 does not have the low-side switch.

Some of the register options differ between the devices such as the mux settings.  There are some other register settings and the order of settings that differ as well.  Additional settings in the ADS122U04 are a conversion counter and CRC and other data integrity options.  The ADS122U04 also has GPIO whereas the ADS1220 does not.

There are a couple of changes to the ADS122U04 with improvement of the common-mode input range and also the removal of the power-up ramp rate restriction for the DVDD supply.  Other than that the core portions of the analog are the same.  The ADS122U04 and the ADS122C04 (I2C interface) are very similar outside of the digital communication interface.

    Best regards,
