ADS7042: ADS7042 with high sensor source resistance

Part Number: ADS7042

I've read the data sheet and app notes regarding high source resistance, but the examples shown are concerned with maintaining some sample rate like 10ksps. In my application I may only need to take a measurement once every few hours, so there is no issue of acquisition time per se, since the ADC is sampling all the time while CS is high.

My question is whether there are additional errors that may be introduced by an input resistance of say, 10K Ohms, e.g. protection diode leakages and so forth.

Thanks,

Julia

  • Hello,

At such low rate that you are using, aspects such as high source resistance are not an issue, this is why it is only addressed at higher sampling rates.

for more information on protection diodes, I suggest looking at our TI Precision Lab video series covering the topics, EOS and ESD for ADCs, this will provide a good coverage on the topic

In cases such as yours where the input is stable for long periods of time, there is likely no errors introduced
