WEBENCH® Tools/ADS8681EVM-PDK: Real time streaming of data into EVM GUI

Hi

We want to use the ADS8681EVM to feed our computer based high level software with the ADC data captured in real time(almost real time). i.e. we are looking to read data capture from the EVM PDK as a stream into our software. Please indicate us about what is the approach to take for it.

Note: We do not have the board procured yet. We are trying to evaluate its suitability.

    Hi,

    Some help in the above will be useful.

    We just want to process as the data gets streemed into computer. Is there such interface available from the computer based high level SW? Or any other approach to do it?

    Hello Pothirajan.K,

    At a 1Msps sampling rate of a 16-bit ADC, a 16-Mbits/sec transfer rate is required for a real time system which is not easy to find a proper interface to a computer. 

    Also, the ADS8681EVM-PDK includes a PHI controller board designed for most TI PADC EVM boards, it uses a USB cable but it will not be detected as a USB communication port on the computer, this is the way it works with associated drivers. The details about the PHI including the firmware are not able to be shared as well.

    Hence, you would need your own host which can interface with the ADC and have a software around it with proper data rate design.

    Thanks for support me in this regard.

    Our system can accept soft-real time data burst. Once data is written into computer hard disk, we will be able to read and process.

    We require one new file in the PC for every 500 milli seconds or 200 milli seconds or some sort of that kind. If this is feasible to be done in the computer software tool that you are supplying along with the EVM-PDK, we are done.

    Do you offer us source code of computer software? I am not asking for host board software.

    Unfortunately, the software is only developed for the EVM evaluation and it's not able to be shared. Thanks for understanding.

    Thanks for response.

    We will purchase the EVM soon. Before purchasing EVM, I am trying to find out whether the "PC based software" is made available to us in source code form?  or it is only a executable binary and source code is not given to the customers like us? 

    Is it possible to configure the PC based software so that the file output of computer based SW can be organized in the following way:

    We require one new file in the PC for every 500 milli seconds or 200 milli seconds or some sort of that kind. Is this feasible in the computer software tool that you are supplying along with the EVM-PDK?

    Hello Pothirajan.K,

    The  "PC based software" is the EVM GUI which is only .exe file and available to be downloaded at any time, you can download it here to see the menu and options. This GUI does not support real-time data transmission however you can save the captured data by "Export->Export Data to Excel" (right click on Time domain display).
