ADS8028: Supply Current

Part Number: ADS8028

Hello Team,

I have an inquiry about ADS8028.

Curiously the power consumption of ADS8028 has exceeded 38 mA.

From the data sheet, this current consumption should be much lower than 38mA. (On our data sheet shows Total=6.3mA at operating condition)

Condition is here.

AVDD: 3.3V

DVDD: 3.3V

AIN0-7: Within 0-3.3V range

CS, SCLK, RST: Fixed at H level

DIN: HZ

SPI-IF is not operating at this time.

The current consumption does not change even if CS is set to L or H.

Since DVDD and RST are connected on PWB,

If both DVDD and RST are set to 0V, the current consumption becomes almost zero.

When DVDD and RST are set to 3.3V, the consumption current returns to 38mA.

Could you advise me the possible root cause ?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Jin

  • Hello,

It looks like something is shorted on the board. I would suggest first to check continuity between all pins and make sure all are correct, and peripheral components as well.

When the RST pin is pulled, the device is either being reset or put in power down mode. The datasheet unfortunately does not state whether the digital pins are in High impedance mode during this period or not. but this might be why the current consumption changes with RST state change.

    Regards
