Hello team,
Can DAC38RF80 output 2.2GHz tone?
Please let me know necessary setting of EVM GUI for the output frequency.
Datasheet spec table says 800mV as typ DACCLK diff input peak to peak voltage and 2000mV as Max. Could you let me know Min value?
Best regards,
Hi Taketo,
The DAC38RF80 can output a 2.2GHz tone. To accomplish this you can use the DAC38RF80EVM's NCO settings and mix up to the desired frequency, such as sending a tone of 200MHz and mixing it with a 2GHz NCO to get a 2.2GHz output. This would require the Mixer and NCO enabled.
In regards to the DACCLK diff input voltage, I am looking into if we have this data available.

Hello David-san,
Thank you for the guide.
I will wait for DACCLK diff input voltage.
Best regards,
Hi Taketo,
A minimum value for the DACCLK diif input voltage was not fully tested. I would recommend operating near the typical value of 800mV because as you get lower and lower in amplitude the noise in the clock could start to have an affect on the output signal.

Hello David-san,
Is there specific threshold level in the device to detect the diff clock input?
Best regards,
Taketo,
I am setting up an EVM and will get a rough estimate of the minimum clock amplitude that the EVM is able to detect and operate with. I will get back to you with the estimate soon.

Taketo,
I tested a DAC38RF82EVM and I was able to go down to about 200 mV peak to peak and still function properly. This is a rough estimate and it may not be the same for every DAC or EVM. Although the DAC was able to function at this level I would still recommend operating per the DAC38RF80 datasheet.
Is there a specific level that is trying to be used?

David Chaparro
Hello David-san,
Thank you for confirmation. Clock input in customer case may see 400mVpp. They will confirm how the noise performance changes with 400mVpp clock.
