ADC34J45EVM: Serial configuration for ADC34J45EVM

Part Number: ADC34J45EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK04828

Hello,

I'm currently in the process of interfacing a 34J45EVM with a Xilinx ZCU106 (without the interposer). In the process, I need to be able to properly configure the board through the FMC connector. I know I have to change JP8 and generate the commands on the FPGA, but when I compared the LMK0482x datasheet with the configuration files used by the GUI (as an example), I found some differences which I did not understand:
The LMK0482x  datasheet, in section 9.5, states (among other things) that register 0x145 must be written 0x7F, and the registers at 0x171 and 0x172 be written 0xAA and 0x02 respectively.
All of the above are not present in the configuration files bundled with the GUI: ADC3xJxx_160MSPS_Operation_LMK_Setting.cfg writes 0x00 to 0x145, and does not touch 0x171 or 0x172.

The question is then: is there a specific reason for the GUI tool not doing things as recommended by the datasheet? Or did I just misunderstood the meaning of the configuration file?
Apart from that, is there any other detail that I need to be aware of? I was planning to start with simply writing the value in the second column of the config file to the address on the first column (thus replicating the known functional GUI settings).

Best regards,
Laez

  • Hi Laez,

I'm looking into any further requirements for using the SPI over FMC (configuration of J8 is correct, as you mentioned), and will get back with you shortly if further action is required.

In regard to the LMK04828 registers, it appears that these registers you pointed out (in the "Recommended Programming Sequence", Section 9.5.2) were added in a datasheet revision after this EVM had been released, so that is why they are not present in GUI configuration file. I can assure you that the LMK register writes do configure the LMK in the desired mode, but please also add the additional writes that are recommended in the LMK04828 datasheet.

Yes, when writing to the LMK04828 registers, the configuration file uses the first column as the register address and the second column as the data to be written to the corresponding register address.

    Best Regards,

    Dan
