ADS7886: Acquisition time

Hello,

Our customer is trying to develop AD conversion circuit for 500kHz 12bit 4.096V full-scale signal from Sensing block.

They look for >1MSPS, >12bit, Serial interface, Small PKG, Low-power SAR ADC.

ADS7886 had been selected but Acquisition time takes 350nsec, conversion time takes 800nsec, it looks little bit too long to detect all of event precisely.

The other hands, LTC2311 is specified each parameter as 38nsec and 161nsec.

Could you recommend us suitable ADC device in TI?

  • Hi Mochizuki-san,

    The ADS7886 sample time is included in the conversion time, not added to it.  Please review Figure 1 and the text beginning on page 15, section 8.4.1 'Normal Operation'.  You can achieve 1MSPS throughput with this device using a 20MHz SCLK.

    We have cleared out the customers concern and proceed to get DIN of ADS7886 in their new project.

    Acquisition time and Conversion time is the parameter in data interface processing block, no need to add A to D conversion process.

    So they can get 1MHz(max) continuous square wave output data at 20MHz system clock.
