ADS1015: ADS1015 input PIN current

Part Number: ADS1015

Hi team,

My customer is using ADS1015 and wondering if the AIN0 input current is over 10mA as datasheet limitation, what would happen?

Would it burn the IC?

Thanks.

  • Hello James,

Correct, the device can be damaged if exposed to 10mA and above. We suggest following the absolute max for operation of the device

Is the customer seeing an over current situation?

    Regards

    Cynthia

  • HI Cynthia,

Yes. Customer had found that PIN burnt out under above condition.

Do you have any failure mode for this scenario?

    Thanks.

  • Hello James,

This is outside the max specs, we do not have a failure mode. But burning out the device does seem like a plausible result.

The customer will need to add protection if this is a case they expect to see.

There is a series of videos on this topic on TI Precision Labs: Electrical Overstress

The videos go over common ways of protection and any discrepancies that could introduce
