DAC8734EVM: DAC8734 EVM powerup problem

Hi,

I just bought a new DAC8734 EVM board.

I try to powerup the DAC8734 considering the powerup sequence given in datasheet.

At first I connect the DVDD (+5V) and IOVDD (+3.3V) power. But when I connect the AVSS my power supply goes to short circuit protection. (I set the power supply current limit as 10 mA to protect the EVM.)

In this case, I cannot powerup the DAC8734 EVM and therefore cannot use it.

I have used a DAC8734 EVM before, but I did not experience such a problem.

Hi,

Your power supply sequencing is correct.

DAC7734 power supply current as per the datasheet is 3.3mA/Channel. For 4 channel, it will be approximately 13.2mA. Can you set your current limit bas 20mA for both AVDD and AVSS?

and make sure to apply REF after AVDD powers up.

I solved the problem.

I had set the current limit for AVDD and AVSS to 20 mA, since one DAC8734 EVM was destroyed by over current before.

Although, the DAC8734 needs 3.3mA/Channel at normal operation, it needs more during the first power up.

So I set the current limit of the power supply to 35 mA for AVDD and AVSS and the problem was solved.
