TSC2013-Q1: tf minimum requirement

Part Number: TSC2013-Q1

Hi team,

Is there any problem if I violate the minimum tf timing of I2C Fast Mode communication?

It is specified as 20+0.1xC(b) in Fast mode, but not specified in Standard mode.

I understand that maximum tf or tr restrictions to support faster communication, but what is the restrictions for minimum tr, tf?

regards,

  • Hello,

Well, we really never like to recommend that minimum specs are violated as they're usually there for a reason.  In this case it's not clear if they were included to prevent any unwanted issues from extremely fast moving input signals, or to prevent high currents required to discharge the bus capacitance that fast.

We can provide commentary that we're used to seeing this for older devices and are a little surprised to see it with the TSC2013-Q1.  For safety measure we recommend staying above the minimum rise/fall times spec'ed in the HS-Mode section which are a little outside what is specified for the Fast-Mode.
