ADS1120: even numbers byte for RDATA

Part Number: ADS1120

Hi DC team,

I have a question about ADS1120 RDATA.

My customer wants to use RDATA to read data regardless of /DRDY with continuous conversion mode.

[Question]
In datasheet figure 64, SCLK sends 3 byte for RDATA command but is it ok to sends 4 byte for RDTA as below (add one more byte at the end like below red)?

[Background]
even numbers are convenient for MCU so want to use 4byte instead of 3 byte.

Regards,
Kai

  • Hi Nomiyama-san,

As most older processor designs are byte oriented as opposed to 16-bit or 32-bit oriented words, the ADS1120 must include these older processor designs.  Using longer word formats are possible.  Hold DIN low while transmitting the additional SCLKs.

The only issue that is seen using this method is when assembling the conversion data.  The code must use the correct bytes in the transfer to show the proper conversion results.  I suggest using a logic analyzer to verify that the data sent from the ADS1120 matches the data in code.

    Best regards,
