DAC8760: About User Calibration

Guru 21045 points

Hi Team,

We would like to use DAC8760 for “1V to 5V” and “4mA to 20mA”.

We understand that if we use calibration function, “The gain register must be programmed to a value of 0x8000 to achieve the default gain of 1” .

When, we set CODE=FFFFh, analog outputs(voltage and current) are 5V(max) and 20mA(max) even if the gain resister is more than 0x8000.

Is my understanding correct?

  • Hide-san,

Yes, 5V and 20mA are the maximum outputs regardless of the gain register setting to try to make them larger.

This user calibration is basically a digital multiplication to change the gain. It takes the DAC code sent to the device, multiplies it by the gain scaling, and sends that new code to be the DAC value. This new value is is limited to be FFFF as the highest value. If you try to increase the gain, and put in the FFFF value, it will not go any higher.
