ADC14155QML-SP: Under/Over Range Output Codes

Part Number: ADC14155QML-SP

Hi,

In Table 6.5 of the specification (Revised Feb. 2019) it gives 0 and 16383 for the under and over range output codes.

However, what if we're using 2's complement data format? Will the corresponding codes be -8192 and +8191?

Thanks in advance,

rich

  • Hi Rich,

You are correct. For more info on this, see Table 2 in Section 7.3.

  • Hi Chase,

Thank you.  I had looked at Table 2 which has the encodings for both offset binary and 2's complement formats ranging from "Negative Full-Scale" to "Positive Full-Scale for particular analog voltage inputs.

However, Table 2 does not address exceptional conditions (e.g., out of range).

Section 6.5 does explicitly address the exceptional conditions for "under range" and "over range" output codes but assumes "Offset Binary Format" (conditions for parameters in Section 6).

So I'm being a bit cautious and want to check that I understand precisely what the output of the ADC will be in 2's complement format under exceptional conditions.

I also looked at the 5962- specification which did not have the out of range encodings for 2's complement format.

So I'd like to make sure I know exactly what the ADC will do before testing in the lab.

    Again, thanks,

    rich
