DAC80508: Gain, Reference Divider, and Full-Scale Range

Folks,

With reference to figure 36 in the datasheet

Reference = 2.5V

It would appear that a DAC code of 0x3FFF generates an output voltage of 5V. If the Gain = 2, and reference divider = 1, shouldn't a full-scale code of 0xFFFF generate 5V. I'm a little confused here.

Hi Don,

It looks like this plot is using the 14 bit device and thus 0x3FFF is full scale and 0x2000 is mid scale. It looks like the plot in Figure 35 is using the 16 bit device. I'm not sure why they decided to switch the resolution between these two plots. You are correct that 0xFFFF would generate 5V when using a 16 bit DAC and Gain = 2.
