ADS8588H: Configuring digital inputs in hardware

Part Number: ADS8588H

Hello,

We are looking at configuring ADS8588H with a minimum number of digital IOs, in parallel and in serial modes. Our priority is sampling rate and fewer lines over flexibility and power consumption. We are also not interested in using the oversampling feature at the moment.

Question 1:

By my count, while using the part in parallel mode, the following can be configured in hardware (always pulled up or down to VCC/AGND):

!PAR/SER/BYTE SEL

RANGE

REFSEL

!STBY

OS0, OS1, and OS2

Additionally, the CONVST_B input can be tied to the CONVST_A without loss of functionality.

Question 2:

2.1: In the parallel mode, can the !CS input be grounded to always enable the data output? In this case all ADCs will have their dedicated DB0,...,DB15 lines.

2.2: Is there any disadvantage to using !CS input to have multiple ADCs (all running in parallel mode) share the DB0,...,DB15 lines?

Question 3:

Is the list of inputs in Question 1 also valid for the serial mode?

Thank you.
