ADS1298_ECG_FE eval software installation issue - Windows 7 64bit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298

During the installation of the latest software posted on ti-web site (ads129xecg-fe-setup-1.1.1.exe), and during the portion of the installation of the device driver software, the following error dialog window appeared : "There was a problem starting libusb0.dll - The specified module could not be found."   The installation of the software did however complete "successfully" and the evaluation application was able to be started, however the software behaves inconsistently sometimes saying it can't connect and "reset firmware", and other times it will connect but say "DSP not ready ..." - additionally the software will behave the same way even if if there is NO MMB0/ADS1298 hardware plugged into the USB port.  My conclusion is that the USB-driver software did not install correctly - is this a known issue and if so is there a "fix"?  Running Windows-7 64-bit with all recent software patches from Microsoft installed.  Tried installing on two different Windows-7 PCs with same result.  Hardware being used is MMB0-REV_D and ADSIx98ECG_FE_REV_C . Any suggestions appreciated as right now all I have is two $200 unusable circuit boards.

  • You can try going to the individual driver installers located @ ftp://ftp.ti.com/pub/data_acquisition/ADCPro2/misc/drivers/.

Install the correct one for your OS and see if this helps.

  • Thanks Greg, that worked!  Much appreciated.

As a note/complaint to TI - the documentation associated with the evaluation board for the ECG_FE should be updated to reflect the fact that the board evaluation software, as provided and documented by TI, does in fact NOT support Windows 7 64-bit - at least not without installing the additional 64-bit winusb driver (aka ADCPro2 drivers) as referenced by the link in Greg's post (below).  Wasted hours trying to get the original "as-is" eval software from TI to (not) work.

Also note that any previously installed drivers should be un-installed first - this can be done by going to the Windows Device Manager utility, selecting libusb-win32 devices-->USBStyx (right click), then using the "Driver" tab click on "Uninstall".  After installing the ADCPro2 driver (from link above on TI's web site) and ignoring all the Microsoft security warnings about driver being unsigned/unknown you can verify (after re-connecting the MMB0/ECG_FE eval board) that the correct driver is being used by going back to the Device Manager Utility and examining the "General" tab for the USBStyx Properties - it should indicate as follows :

          Device type : libusb-win32 devices

          Manufacturer : Texas Instruments, Inc

          Location : Port_#003.Hub_#0009

/* the location info may vary depending on what USB hub/port the ECG_FE eval board is plugged into */

I did not need to restart the computer after installing the new drivers - but never hurts if all else fails.
