Hi everybody,

I am trying to start a project using the Spectrum Digital ezDSP F28335 Kit. I'd like to remark that this kit uses an on-board emulator to connect the PC and the board, and it is not necessary to use a physical JTAG. The board is properly detected, I can run properly the CCSv5 and launch the debug session, but every time that I try to connect the board, the system shows a message like this:

Error connecting to the target:
Error 0x80002280/-1250
Fatal Error during: Target Communication, OCS, Control,
Device driver: Lost USB connection to emulator.
You should ABORT and restart to re-establish the USB link.

I have tried all the options that I found: reinstall the CCS and the drivers of the board, try in another computer to see if the problem is the PC,... But I have the same result with all the test that I made. Can someone help me with my problem?

Could you run the SDConfigEx utility and run the full JTAG tests and post the results here?

I tried to run SDConfigEx utility but I think that this tool doesn't work for onboard JTAG emulators. At least, this is the issue that I understand in this guidelines (point 3).

For that, I don't see the device when I launch the SDConfigEx tool. Thanks for your reply.

Oh right. The onboard emulator on the 28335 is an XDS100v1. For that, you can use the 'Test Connection' button in CCS:

Thanks for the suggestion, but this button is disabled with the configuration that I am using (Connection: Spectrum Digital DSK-EVM-eZdsp onboard USB Emulator and Device: EZDSPF28335), and it is impossible to run it. Is it normal?

Sorry, I was thinking of some other board. I googled up your board and I think this is it:

It's the old board with an on-board XDS510 USB I believe. I think you can run SDConfig. Try running SDConfig for a 510USB

When I try to run the SDConfig, it shows me a message like this

>> XDS510-USB Emulator not connected/enumerated

>> Could not open emulation connection

But I can see the board in the Device Manager.

Sorry, I don't have much more suggestions. I suggest also contacting Spectrum Digital support. They may have more suggestions.

I am having the same problem with the same board. I called Spectrum Digital and the first thing they asked me was whether I am running inside a VM, which I am. However my VMs are set up as boot camp partitions in Parallels so they can run either within a VM or I can boot into them natively, so I will try natively later tonight which will eliminate the VM issue.

I am not sure why a VM would be a problem because I have many other types of JTAGs that work fine inside my VMs, but that was the first thing he asked.

I have tried CCSv3.3 in Win7 and CCSv5.4 in a recent ubuntu-flavor linux and neither can see the jtag on this board. In Windows there is an exclamation mark in device manager, and in linux the board shows up in dmesg but it seems like the USB ID in the hardware does not match items in the udev configuration. Even still, test-running as root (eliminating permission issues on writing to the device) does not fix it.

Tonight I will try CCSv5.4 inside Win7.

He did confirm that the on-board JTAG is an XDS510USB so I know I am selecting the correct one.

As I suspected, and contrary to what the tech support guy said, the VM is not the problem. Tonight I got the board to work inside Win7 in a "Parallels" VM under CCSv3.3.

Next stop, installing CCSv5.4 in Win7.

I would much prefer to get this functional under linux but WIndows is a start at least.

This is the information that helped me get the driver installed and the jtag on the board recognized, at least under CCSv3.3. It talks about VIsta drivers but nobody goes back and updates 7 year old help pages, do they ...

I got the board to be recognized under Win7 (under a Parallels VM) and I'm able to build/debug example projects.

However the SdConfigExv5 program does nothing for me, it generates "cannot enumerate" errors even though I have it working inside CCSv5.4.

I select the eZdsp option inside CCSv5.4 rather than the 510USB option.
