DLPDLCR2000EVM: change or delete splash screen

Part Number: DLPDLCR2000EVM

Hi team,

I'm using the DLPDLCR2000evm with a beaglebone black and everything is working fine. I just have one problem, I would like to change the splash screen and if it would be possible to get a step by step instruction on how to make these changes (or to simply delete the splash screen).

Thank you so much in advance.

Best regards,

  • Zhonghui,

when you say "change the splash screen" do you mean switch between the splash screens currently on the EVM?

I suspect that you wish to remove and add different splash screens to the device. is this correct?

    Regards,

    Arthur Brown

  • Hi Arthur,

Thank you very much for your reply.

yes exactly I would like to remove the current splash screens and add an image data type containing a logo as the new splash screen.
That would be great if it's doable and thank you so much in advance.

    Best regards,

  • Zhonghui,

The splash screens are stored in the devices firmware. so you would need to reprogram the flash IC on the EVM with new firmware containing the desired image.

this is done using a SOIC 8 clip directly connected to the flash IC and a SPI host adapter (In our case a Cheetah SPI Host Adapter). however this device is a bit expensive.

Any SPI host, even a Raspberry Pi could be used.

if you have such a device, you may send us the desired image and we can generate a new Firmware image for you use.

  • Hi Arthur,

I see. I'm planning on using a couple of projecters (actually more than a couple), therefore i think it's best to buy the Cheetah SPI host adapter. But my question now would be, would I have to send you the images I would like to have as splash screens each time or can I generate or reprogram the new firmware containing the desired images myself (if so I would like to know how to accomplish that), surely hoping that it's not such a complicated task.

Thank you so much for your help.

    Best regards,

  • Zhonghui,

Yes, the cheetah is the right tool for you application.

Yes, the tool we use to generate the firmware is for internal use only, so if you wished to change the splash image you would need to send us the desired splash image and we would send you the firmware through a secure server for this purpose.

  • Hi Arthur,

Thank you so much for your support.
I have one last question: can I order the new projectors straight from TI and send you the new splash images I would like to have for each projector and get them like that.

Thank you so much for your assistance.

    Best regards,

  • Zhonghui,

We will be able to provide you the firmware modifications you need, and support you in getting the EVMS reprogrammed.

We are not going to be able to reprogram them for you due to bandwidth limitations on our side.

I will give you my email via private message and we can continue this support over email.

    regards,

    Arthur

  • Hi Arthur,

Thank you so much for your support, you have been most helpful.
The customer already ordered the Cheetah SPI host adapter.
but now The customer would also like to know:
    1. How does The customer proceed when The customer get the SPI host adapter, I mean do The customer send you the image file (for the new splash screen) here or through which chanel?
    2. How can The customer reprogram the flash IC on the evm with the new firmware afterwards
    3. Can The customer project a circular shap (like in the demo video), because the image file customer intend on using is of a rectangular shape and customer want it to be projected in a circular shape as a whole.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Zhonghui,

    1) I have sent you a private message with my email. you may send the image(s) and we can create the firmware. this will then be shared via a download link on our secure server.

2)With the Cheetah device we use the Flash Center GUI by Total Phase (https://www.totalphase.com/products/flash-center/). Connect Cheetah to PC -> load firmware image into GUI -> program Flash IC

    3) I suspect that this will need to be done by simply editing the image to be circular and the rest of the rectangular image is black. I will however talk with the team and see if this controller has image processing features that can crop the image to a circular shape.

    Best regards,

    Arthur Brown

  • Hello Zhonghui,

There is no image processing feature to crop the image to a circular shape. the image should simply be made the desired shape before programming and then leave the rest of the frame black.

If you wanted to accomplish a similar effect as the demo video(moving and resizing the circle) then it will be best to give the video input from the beagle bone black

    Best regards,

    Arthur

  • Hi Arthur,

    sorry for my late response.

The customer still waiting for the SPI host adapter but in the mean time, The customer can perhaps send you the first picture (for testing purposes) The customer would like to have as a splashscreen.

    Thank you so much again.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Zhonghui,

Thank you for this image. we are building the firmware now.

Also, Here on E2E i sent you a personal message with my email attached. so that you don't need to post these images publicly.
