DLPC3433: Is HOST_IRQ affected by DMD Video Data lines mis-wiring?

I am using the DLPC3433 with DLPA2005 and DLP3010.

I currently have everything setup and see the DLPC communicating over SPI with the EEPROM chip.

The VOFS, VBIAS, and VRST are at the correct voltages.

HOST_IRQ stays high which means the DLPC hasn't finished initializing.

I have already found a mis-wiring in my custom design for the high-speed DMD pins. However, will this mistake keep the whole board from operating ?

I know at this point the video won't work. But is this issue what is keeping HOST_IRQ high or is that a different issue?

DMD_DEN_ARSTZ, DMD_LS_CLK, DMD_LS_WDATA, DMD_LS_RDATA are routed fine.

Hello Morgan,

Welcome to TI E2E forums and thanks for showing interest in the DLP technology.

At the initialization, it is checked whether all the necessary connections in the DLP chipset are setup properly or not. Hence it is highly likely that the initialization is failing because of the miss-wiring.

Hi Mayank,

I'm looking at the DLPC3433, DLPC3438 datasheet (DLPS035E – FEBRUARY 2014 – REVISED NOVEMBER 2020). On page 47 it states that

With internal software selection, the DLPC34xx also supports a limited number of DMD interface swap configurations that can help board layout by remapping specific combinations of DMD interface lines to other DMD interface lines as needed. Table 7-9 shows the four options available for the DLP3010 (.3 720p) DMD specifically.

The table in the datasheet only shows 2 options, however. Are there an additional 2 options for the pin mapping?

Morgan,

Can you please elaborate on the mis-wiring? which connections where made incorrectly? Until we understand fully It is hard for us to say with certainty if updated firmware could resolve this issue.

You are correct there are 4 pin mapping options for this DMD.

the purpose of the changeable pin mapping options is to simplify board layout for the designer. when using this chipset with incorrect pin mapping the chipset will still initialize correctly and display an image, just that the image will be a bunch of colorful non-sense

Thank you. However we will also need to know which DMD pins these are connected to. once we know that we can determine if any of the pin mapping options are such that the video will work properly.

Using the Firmware selector tool here https://software-dl.ti.com/dlp/pico-fw-selector/ you can generate firmware for this chipset with either pin mapping options.

If either of these don't work then there must be another issue with the chipset.

there are 2 options in the FW selector because 1,3 and 2,4 are functionally extremely similar

Hello Morgan,

After Talking with the team the consensus is that the way the DMD data lines are misconnected will certainly stop the chipset from initializing.

I understand that you wish to test the rest of the board however there is no simple way which we are able to share to get around this. It is best that you just build another board.
