DLPLCR65EVM: Incident light inquiry

Part Number: DLPLCR65EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP6500FYE

Hi Team,

Pls help to advise for below:

1. What is the maximum allowable incident light amount? (W / cm2)
2. What is the reflectance of DMD incident light?
3. Is it possible to increase the allowable amount of incident light by removing heat from the DMD chip? What is the specific heat removal method? (Heat insulation, water-cooled chiller, etc.
Please help verify.

Beat Regards,
Tom Liu

  • Hi Tom,

This EVM has the DLP6500FYE DMD on it. That DMD datasheet is number DLPS053B on ti.com so you can search on the specifications.

We do not list a maximum allowable limit for the visible wavelength range DMD. The datasheet specifications for electrical, thermal, mechanical and optical parameters all need to be considered to achieve the maximum incident light performance. DMDs in standard display applications like projectors can achieve several thousand lumen performance.

Page 23 of the datasheet lists a nominal photopic efficiency of 66%, which can vary by a number of system parameters.

To increase incident energy while staying within the datasheet specifications, the designer can use a more efficient thermal grease from the DMD back side of the package to the heat sink, and can also move to water cooling.

If you have more questions we can take the dialog offline. Just let us know.

    Thank you,

    Matt
