DLP3021LEQ1EVM: What is the external adapter DEF060A for in the DLP3021LEQ1EVM demo board?

Part Number: DLP3021LEQ1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Hello!

1. Why does the DLP3021LEQ1EVM demo board need an external Cheetah Tm SPI Host Adapter "F"?

2. What is the part number for the Cheetah Tm SPI Host Adapter? The DEF060A adapter is not available on ti .com.

3. Can I use the FTDI USB-to-SPI Cable "A" from the EVM kit to debug the MSP430?

4. Does the IAR programming environment support firmware via FTDI USB-to-SPI Cable "A"?

5. Does the IAR programming environment support FTDI USB-to-SPI Cable "A" tracing?

Best regards, Vladimir Zhukov.

  • Hi Vladimir,

    Responding to your questions:

    1. The DLP3021LEQ1EVM does not need the Cheetah interface. The Cheetah interface is optional and can be bought seperately as a faster SPI alternative to the FTDI cable already included with the DLP3021LEQ1EVM kit. SPI speed is only noticeable when it comes to reprogramming the EVM's flash memory with video content.

2.The Total Phase Cheetah SPI Host Adapter is not a TI product, but can be purchased from TotalPhase here: https://www.totalphase.com/products/cheetah-spi

    3. To flash program and debug the MSP430 on the EVM, you cannot use the FTDI cable. Instead, you would need to purchase the TO MSP-FET from here: https://www.ti.com/tool/MSP-FET Note, the MSP430 is already programmed to run the first video it finds in the external flash memory. The MSP430 is not required or used when evaluating the EVM using the DLP Control Program GUI with the FTDI cable. The MSP430 is more so included to local demo purposes.

4/5.IAR is a supported programming environment for MSP430 code development, though the example source code we provide was created using Code Composer Studio. The FTDI cable is only intended to serve as an interface between the DLP Control Program and Composer GUIs (PC) to the EVM.
