DLP7000: Drift in the tilt frequency of the DMD?

Hello TI-Community,

I am using the DLP 7000 for modulating light intensities. Therfore I use an area of surface with a certain tilt frequency to guide the light to a photodiode.

When observing the amplitude of the tilt frequency over time, I recognize a temporal drift. Is there any known mechanical or thermal drift which effects the tilt frequency of the mirrors?

    Nice to meet you.

    In general, the tilt angle should not change on the DMD as long as the device is used within the datasheet recommended operating conditions and the duty cycle specs outlined in Figure 1.

    When you mention tilt frequency, are you referring to the duty cycle of operation? In Section 8.7 of the device datasheet there is an explanation of "Micromirror Landed-On/Landed-Off Duty Cycle." If certain duty cycles are used at temperatures at the spec maximum or above, there could be torque buildup of the mirrors. Built in torque can mostly be removed by opposite duty cycles, continuous 50/50 operation, and a return to lower temperatures.

    When the mirrors are parked flat, we cannot guarantee that they will be at 0 degrees. Depending the temperature and duty cycle, you may see a variation of the "flat" state" of the mirrors.

    We want to make sure we understand the exact phenomenon you are measuring to give you the most accurate answer. Please let us know if you need more details.

    thank you for your quick reply. Yes with tilt frequency, I mean the duty cycle of operation which I use in a continuous 50/50 operation.

    So I have to assume that the drift is caused by some other effects before the DMD.
