DLPDLCR3010EVM-G2: Projection suddenly became heavily biased on RED

Part Number: DLPDLCR3010EVM-G2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPA3000

Hi,

The projector output suddenly changed and is now very heavily biased on RED.

The projector had been used somewhat intensively -with factory settings- for the past 6 months without issues, and the change happened spontaneously.

It looks like something broke, but there are no apparent signs of damage.

Are there particular measures to take when using those projectors?

Is it normal that it dies after less than 6 months of continuous use?

Best regards,

Adrien

  • Hi Adrien,

Welcome to TI E2E forums and thanks for your interest in our DLP technology.

For my understanding, the EVM is constantly running for around 6 months, is that right?

Were there any specific steps you did before you saw the heavily biased on RED LED?

    Regards,

    Lori

  • Hi Lori,

Yes the EVM was -more or less- constantly running for around 6 months.

There were no specific steps prior to the bias: one evening it was fine, the next morning it had shifted for no apparent reason.

    Best regards,

    Adrien

  • Hi Adrien,

In that case, I suspect the EVM probably damaged (e.g. DLPA3000,light engine...) for a long time running. Unfortunately, it seems like your EVM is out of warranty at this moment.

Have you noticed any other components that work inappropriate? I would recommend you do some voltage testing on the EVM.

For more information, please refer to https://www.ti.com/tool/DLPDLCR3010EVM-G2 for data sheet and reference design.

    Thank you!

    Regards,

    Lori

  • Hi Adrien, if you are able to, can you please take the following measurements so we can better assist:

    1. Measure the LED current for all 3 color channels on your EVM.
    2. Probe the power lines and observe during turn-on and turn-off.
    3. Probe I_SW test point and observe during normal operation.

If you can post oscilloscope captures of these measurements we will be better able to troubleshoot.

    Thank you,

    Chris
