DLPLCRC900DEVM: Distorted pattern in long sequence

Part Number: DLPLCRC900DEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC900, DLP670S, , DLP500YX, DLP9000

We are using the DLPLCRC900DEVM (DLPC900 + DLP670S).

Overall the system seems to work fine. However when I display a long sequence of patterns, the patterns beyond a certain point in the sequence appear with severe visual distortions.

For example when using 1-bit patterns, the first 240 patterns will be displayed correctly but the patterns beyond that point are distorted by broad horizontal stripes.
Similarly, when using 8-bit patterns, the first 30 patterns are displayed correctly but patterns beyond that point are distorted.

Is this a known problem? Am I doing something wrong?

This problem appears in pattern-on-the-fly mode as well as with patterns pre-stored in flash.
The distortion extends over both halves of the mirror (master and slave).
The problem is perfectly reproducible.

The attached photos show what the distortion looks like.
The first photo show a correct pattern (matrix of black squares).
The second photos show a distorted pattern (broad stripes crossing the matrix of squares).

We are using DLP LightCrafter DLPC900 GUI version 5.0.0 with DLP670S firmware version 6.0.0.

  • Hello Joris,

We are durrently investigating this issue.  You are the second customer to report a similar issue.  We are attempting to recreate this on this chipset combination.  It appears to be related to the DLP670S on the DLPLCRC900DEVM.

Thank you for reporting this to us.

  • Hello Joris,

Thank you for your patience. The team is testing this platform now and looking into a potential memory loading issue. The team has not seen this issue on the DLP6500 or 9000 devices. We will have more details to share later this week.

    Regards,

    Matt

  • Hello Joris,

We have confirmed in the lab that this is an issue specific to the DLP670S firmware for this platform and that it is not a problem on the DLP6500/DLPC900 or DLP9000/DLPC900 platforms.  We have yet to fully test the DLP500YX/DLPC900 platform.  We will be working on a maintenance release for the DLP670S/DLPC900 firmware for this platform, but do not have a schedule yet.

Please accept a friend invitation so we can inform you of progress and any schedule.  In the meantime I am going to mark this resolved.  If you need you can re-open in in the next couple of weeks.  If it is longer you can simply start a new thread.
