dlp4100 chipset Technical issues

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP9500, DLPC410

Hi team,

I got a question from customer.

"We use the DMD development kit of dlp4100 chipset. We use the discover 4100 explorer to control the image loading.

At present, the minimum stability time of micro mirror turnover found in the data search is 3us. But now when loading pictures, the following can only reach the speed of 1s each.

1. Will "load and reset" and "clear and reset" affect the loading speed?

2. Is there a solution example to meet faster loading?

1 Image

2  D:\xxx\xxx\1.bmp
1 Load and Reset
2 Global
1 Clear and Reset
2 Global
"

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,

  • Hello Zhonghui,

Yes, the 3us is for a mirror to crossover and settle. The customer is probably referencing a device like the DLP9500, which has 3us as the nominal value in the datasheet.

I am not quite sure I understand the sequence naming, but yes, the customer is correct that data is loaded into the array, and the mirrors will be moved to the next state in the sequence after the reset command. All of the mirrors will need to move to either a different state or stay in the same state. There are many factors which determine the speed of the image display. The DMD array size, the number of bits per pixel (1 bit data or 18 bit data), and the functional mode will all affect the speed.

1 second seems a little slow to me, but we would have to look closer at the actual system parameters and the data inputs into the DLPC410.

Here are good reference sections on ti.com for operational mode details:

DLP9500 datasheet: pages 32-33 describing how data is loaded into the array.

DLPC410 datasheet: section 8.4.2 describing data loads per DMD device and more details of the timing values.

Please let us know if this helps and also what other information we can provide.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

    Thank you for your help.

There is another small question. Can clear and reset be removed? It is found that the relevant data is cleared and displayed. In this case, will the removal of this instruction affect the hardware?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Zhonghui,

Here is another document explaining the different modes of operation and what some of the requirements are for these modes: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/dlpa008

I know the customer is trying to optimize the speed of operation, but we might need to help the customer understand the basic operational modes. For example, in your sequence above, I see "2 GLOBAL", but I do not know what that means. There is GLOBAL mode and there can be a GLOBAL RESET, so the sequence is confusing.

The mode of operation will depend on what the customer is trying to accomplish. The specifications for timing for CLEARS and RESETS should be in the datasheets for the devices that the customer is using.

Please let us know if we need to take the discussion offline. Our Apps Engineers can help after the holidays.

    Thank you,

    Matt

  • Hi Zhonghui,

    Happy New Year!

Please let us know if the customer needs further guidance on their design and understanding.

    Thank you,

    Matt
