Customer ordered a DLP4710EVM-LC for light control. He need to replace the 3 original LEDs with a light guide for a narrow-band light illumination (e.g. orange 580nm/10nm). He read the e2e forum link above and found that you could provide a custom firmware to disconnect the 3 LEDs. Can my customer have the custom firmware that tackles on the link below? Thank you very much.

To confirm, your client only needs firmware without LED's enabled on a DLP4710, DLPC3439, DLPA3005 system, correct? I would like to be sure since the post that you have linked has additional requests.

Hello Ray,

Can you clarify what EVM you are using? The DLP4710EVM-LC has a DLPC3479 controller and the dlpdlcr4710evm-g2 has a DLPC3439 controller. The information given above is conflicting and I need to know what EVM/controller is being used.

Hi John,

Good Day. Please see below the response of our customer to the granted access for him. Thank you very much.

I downloaded the firmware (dpp3479-dual-ASIC_8.1.4.img) and installed it to my DLP4710EVM-LC successfully. However, the DMD didn't show anything. The software didn't report any errors. Here are what I tested:

1. disconnected all 3 LEDs.

2. turned on the projector with yellow light illumination. No splash screen was displayed.

3. set a checkerboard pattern. No checkerboard was displayed .

4. tried splash image or video mode, nothing was displayed .

I then connected all 3 LEDs.

1. turn on the projector with yellow light illumination. No splash screen was displayed. No LEDs were on, which is good.

2. set a checkerboard pattern. The checkerboard was shown and all LEDs were on (I don't know why).

Do you have any idea what could be wrong?

Hello Ray,

The firmware image provided should be the same as the base without any LED activity. Does the base firmware show activity on the DMD with LED's connected?
In the first case where the LED's were disconnected, was I2C able to be established with the DLPC? Did HOST_IRQ drive low?

What is the yellow light illumination? Is this an LED connected to lines that would usually drive the RGB LED's?

The original firmware can show splash image, checkerboard and HDMI on the DMD with LEDs connected but disabled.

I disconnected the three LEDs at the control board. The I2C connection looks green in the debut section of GUI. I haven't checked the host_IRQ. Which pin is it on the board?

My application is to use a light guide with yellow light to replace the green LED after removing the dichroic mirror in the light engine. The yellow light is controlled by an independent source. I need to disconnect all three LEDs.

Hello Ray,

This EVM will have two HOST_IRQ signals, one for each controller. LED D33 is M_HOST_IRQ and LED D34 is S_HOST_IRQ. They are below and to the of the button/switch you would push to get the EVM to display. Can you tell us if they are on or not when the LEDs are unplugged and the button mentioned before has been pushed?

Here are the tests:

1. disconnect all 3 LEDs. The cooling fans are also disconnected.

2. turn on the power switch. The D43 (power) and D57 (INTZ / PARK) turn green.

3. push the green button to turn on the DMD. The D57 turns off. The D33, D34 and D36 turn green.

4. set a checkerboard pattern. R692 flashes, then stays green.

5. No display on DMD.

I then pushed the green button to turn off the DMD; turned off the power switch; connected all LEDs, but not cooling fans; retested the above procedure.

The only difference is in the step 5: there is a clear display of checkerboard pattern on the DMD and all LEDs are on. I immediately turned off the LEDs in the GUI.

Good Day. Please see below the response of our customer about the firmware. Thank you very much.

I downloaded the new firmware with the version of 8.1.5, and updated it with my DLP4710EVM-LC yesterday. The display looked good with all 3 LEDs disconnected. Just two things:

1. The DLP EVM GUI 3.1.0.5 had the "communication error" checked on the Info page, but I didn't see any error in the command log on the debug page.

2. The "advance" page in the GUI crashed when I clicked it. This happened for DLP4710EVM-LC, but it worked well with my DLP3010EVM-LC.

Hi Ray,

Is the communication error flag raised consistently? Are you able to communicate with the DLPC otherwise? It may be that the I2C connection ran into an error but corrected itself. Unless you are seeing this with loss of function, it should not be a cause for concern.
This issue occurs only with the 4710EVM but not the 3010EVM? Were you able to interface with the DLPC (successfully perform a couple of Gets) before opening the advanced page? You will not be able to access the advanced menu without the GUI finding a system with which to communicate.

The communication error flag always rises when the projector starts, but could disappear after displaying patterns. One thing I notice is that the ambient temperature is always 0C.

Attached are the crash logs for the advanced menu since I installed the software.

Hello Ray,

The error flag is likely being raised since there command is being issued without thermistor processing being enabled. The firmware we have provided did not have this processing enabled.

The logs appear to be encrypted and do not lend us any information on the crashes. If you are able, please let us know the information requested in bullet 2 of my previous post.

The "advanced menu" works for DLP3010EVM-LV, but not DLP4710EVM-LV. I can successfully interface with DLPC in DLP4710EVM-LV, but never get "advanced menu" working.

Can you ask the customer to try and open the advanced GUI without the EVM connected or powered on? Can they tell us what behavior they are experiencing without the EVM being connected?
