DLPLCR67EVM: Display stuck with fixed pattern even when powered off

Part Number: DLPLCR67EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPLCRC900DEVM

We have ordered and successfully used multiple units of the DLPLCR67EVM board (in conjunction with DLPLCRC900DEVM). However the latest unit we received ha a problem that makes it unusable.

The display shows a fixed pattern that resembles the default splash screen. The fixed pattern is never cleared and remains when the unit is powered down.

Fixed pattern while powered off

  • Hi Darius,

    Thanks for reaching to us.

I hope you have made sure the Connection between Controller and DMD board are proper and tightly connected.

Can you please connect the EVM to GUI and share the GUI screen capture.
I wanted to see the firmware version loaded and see if any error status bit is set.

Is Green color heartbeat LED next to each controller is blinking every seconds continuously?

    Thanks,
    Shivakumar

  • We've checked that the connections are secure, and the original problem remains.

A screen capture of the GUI window is below. There don't seem to be any errors.

The heartbeat LED is blinking normally (also shown below).

  • Darius,

I have a few further questions:

    • Was this unit left running this image for a long period of time?
    • When you do try to load and run another pattern, does it appear with the image "overlaid" or does the loaded image not appear at all?

I would assume that the image remains even if the DMD is removed from it's socket, since you indicate that it remains even when power is removed.

I also noticed that the GUI shows that the Controller/DMD Incompatible flag is set on the status screen.

If you put this DMD into another system does it also show as incompatible?

  • Hello Fizix,

No, the unit was not left running this image for a long time. We noticed the problem soon after powering up for the first time.

I can confirm that the the physical display is unchanged when new patterns are sent to the device.

Although I haven't tried removing the device from its socket, I don't think this will have an effect. The pattern has persisted for several days with the system disconnected from all power.

I haven't tried putting the DMD into another system because we don't currently have one available to do this kind of test.

  • Darius,

I thought you might have other systems available based on your original message about having ordered and used multiple units.  Under the circumstances, I do not know what further debug can be done.

The screenshot of the GUI you provided shows that the Controller/DMD is incompatible.

If If you are still within the warranty period of the DMD EVM, then you can try requesting a return. If not, replacing the DMD typically works in these situations, but cannot be guaranteed.

  • Thanks for your help.

We bought the EVM from Mouser. Their customer support team ask for a return number from TI to pass on to them so they can process the return.

How can I get this return number?

  • Hi Darius,

Fizix will provide the process details that will allow us to replace your EVM or your DMD.

    Regards,

    Matt

  • Darius,

I am sending a friend invite so that I can get information from you to facilitate this.
