DLP Guide: Which TI dev't kit would be suitable?

Hi Experts,

We have this query from Cx about DLP:

I am currently working on a project where we want to control a DMD using a PC through high-speed visual feedback (500~1000Hz). The DMD is supposed to change the path of a laser beam in the visible spectrum and a power of 80 mW.
I checked the DLP development kits, but since I am completely new to DMDs I couldn't decide which one would be suitable for our application. My question is: can we control the DMD (only mirror, no need to control LEDs) with 1KHz frequency using C++ code running on a Windows PC, for example through USB, without using Rasberry Pi.

If it is possible, what kits do you suggest?

Could you please provide further information regarding the laser intensity in terms of lumens and also elaborate on what do you mean by changing the path of laser beam?

Hello Archie,

I assume that your application requires 1-bit patterns at 1000 Hz frame rate. All of products / EVM from Advanced Light Control (High Speed Visible) portfolio can support this requirement.

In addition, DLPC API library can be used to control the controller/EVM from a PC via USB. This API supports DLP2010EVM-LC, DLP3010EVM-LC and DLP4710EVM-LC.

The DMDs are thermally limited . The DMD array temperature will depend on system design like ambient temperature and thermal management along with incident power.

Please refer to "section 7.6 Micromirror Array Temperature Calculation" on page 24 for calculating DMD array temperature for details.

Laser - Please ensure that the laser light is uniformly distributed over DMD active array. A concerted point beam of laser light can generate sufficient heat locally to permanently damage DMD mirrors even at very low power.
