DLP4500: How to use DMD

Part Number: DLP4500

Hello. I have taken the DMD part out of my DLP4500 and connected the power supply and USB. i have also downloaded the GUI. I have a question, I don't know how to display the image on the DMD. Also, when I try to load the images, I get the message "Only images of resolution 912*1140 are supported" even though they are in bmp format. I don't know how to resolve this.

I have one more question. Actually, I would like to use this DMD to change the beam shape of the laser. I don't know anything about it yet, but is it possible? If it is possible, I would like to know how to change the shape of the laser.

  • Hello User,

Welcome to the E2E forum and thank you for your interest in DLP technology!

Can you confirm that the image you are attempting to upload is below the 912x1140 resolution by right clicking on the image and viewing its properties?

Would you mind specifying how you would like to change the beam shape of the laser? Would this be the typical reflection of the laser off of the DMD mirrors or is there further control you would with to have?

    Regards,

    Austin

  • Thanks for the reply.

I have solved the resolution issue.

As for the laser, I would like to have two beam profilers for the He-Ne laser, one like a cylinder and the other flat. If you look at the images you will see what I mean. I would like to know if it is possible to achieve a green laser-like profiler, as in (a), using this DMD. Also, if it can be done, I would like to know how to do it.

  • Hello User,

I am glad to hear that you have made progress on this.

Can you speak on what you would like calibrated when using the green laser profiler?

Additionally, have you been able to make progress on displaying an image on the DMD?

    Regards,

    Austin

  • Thank you for your reply. I was able to display a sample image (checkerboard pattern or grid pattern) on the DMD. But I don't know how to display my favorite shape. If I want to collect the laser light reflected by the DMD with a lens and obtain an arbitrary beam profiler, I think the DMD should display the hologram transformed by the inverse Fourier transform, but I don't know what to do.

I also have another question. When the laser beam is incident when the power is not turned on (the mirror surface is completely cut off), the reflected light is reflected in a grid pattern. Is this a bug? Or is it correct? please tell me. The image is when the power is not turned on.

  • Hello User,

I am contacting our optics team in regards to your efforts in reflecting light off of the DMD with an arbitrary beam profiler, but this may be outside of our scope of support. When you say that you are not able to display your favorite shape, do you mean you are not yet able to get the input image mode to work?

Regarding the grid reflection when the mirrors on in an off state, is the DMD still in an optical module or has it been removed?

    Regards,

    Austin

  • Hi user,

Do you mean to use DMD as a programmable lens. If so the DMD will display a holographic pattern that will steer the energy at the desired profile. We have confirmed with our optical team and that this can be done with low efficiency approximately 8%.

Also Could you please elaborate on what is the shape/pattern you wanted to be shown

    Regards,

    Akhil

  • Does 8 percent mean that if the laser beam to be emitted is 1W, the laser light to be reflected is only 80mW?

I would like to have an incident Gaussian beam so that the profiler of the reflected light is cylindrical.

  • Hello User,

Unfortunately we are unable to read this post. Would it be possible to have this translated into English?

Regarding your other question, 80 mW would be the expected output with 1W input.

    Regards,

    Austin

  • ごめんなさい。

  • Hello User,

I think your latest comment got posted in Chinese. Can you please repost it in English?

  • Sorry, I'm not sure how to fix the problem.  Yes, I was able to display a computer screen via HDMI. However, if I download an image of a celebrity's face from the internet, for example, I cannot figure out how to display that image on the DMD.  Also, regarding this lattice reflection, the DMD is bare and the laser light is hitting the mirror surface of the DMD. Even if I change the image pattern.

  • User,

Thanks for the clarification. We will look into the problem you are facing and will get back soon.

  • Hello User,

What is the resolution and picture format of the image you have downloaded form internet?

    Supported resolution is 912x1140 only.

  • Hello. thank you for reply. I understood how to display images and I could do it.

Next, I have a new question.

When I irradiate laser beam, the reflection beam spread in a strange way.

Is that OK? Then, the surface of DMD is no matter. If the surface image change, the

spread direction is not changed. Please the picture. thank you.

the laser wavelength is 532nm, power is much low.

  • Hello User,

Would you be able to post your new question as a new thread on E2E? We are happy to help, but this will allow our metrics to be more accurate since we have addressed a couple inquiries.

    Kind regards,

    Austin

  • Ok.thank you.
