DLPLCR67EVM: USB device not recognized

Part Number: DLPLCR67EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP670S, DLPLCRC900EVM, DLPC900

Hello,

so thanks to your help, I was able to solve this problem: https://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp-products-group/dlp/f/dlp-products-forum/1104137/controller-dmd-incompatible/4093359#4093359

And I was able to use the mode "Pattern on the fly" in the DLP LightCrafter DLP900 GUI, and send patterns to my DLP670S, and everything worked very well. I then left the DMD on for ~30 minutes with a single pattern, and when I tried stopping the pattern, the GUI had frozen. So I forced the GUI to close. When I opened the GUI again, the board appeared "Disconnected" (see picture below).

I tried powering down and then powering up again the DLP9000EVM. The DMD then keeps displaying alternatively a checkerboard pattern, and a pattern with what seems to be reference of the DMD. When I try connecting the board via USB to the computer though, the computer tells me "USB device not recognized", see picture below.

When I try opening the Lightcrafter GUI, I just see a "Disconnected" red light. I tried restarting the computer, changing the USB port, but that doesn't change anything. Hitting "Reset" in the Lightcrafter GUI, or hitting the SW1 switch on the controller board did not do anything either.

The only thing I can think of that I did before the GUI froze, that maybe (????) had an influence was to turn on a Hamamatsu camera, connected to another USB port on the same computer, and opening the software (Hamamatsu HCImage) to control the camera.

I'll try several "basic" things (change the USB cable, try a different computer,...) on Monday, but if you have ideas on how to solve the problem I'd be happy to try them out too!

Thanks a lot for your help,

Gabriel

  • Hello again Gabriel,

    Please try The follwoing steps:

    1. Unplug the EVM, and put the HOLDboot jumper on (at J11) for the DLPLCRC900EVM.
    2. Power up the system.  The heartbeats will not work, but see if the system shows as connected.in the GUI. If it does not let me know.
    3. If it does show connected then power down and remove the jumper.
    4. Power up the system again.  If it shows connected see if you can communicate with the GUI.  If it does then try running more tests If not, then continue to step 5.
    5. Power down and put on the J11 jumper again.
    6. Power up and follow theses instructions from page 58 in DLPU101A (Single DLPC900 EVM Guide).

Before using JTAG to reload the bootloader, first install the HOLDboot jumper (J11) and turn the
system on. The system shows connected, but does not recognize the attached DMD. Manually select
the radio button that matches your DMD and go to the firmware tab and select the FW image and
reprogram. Then power down, remove the BOOThold jumper and restart the system. Reprogramming
in this manner often recovers a system without requiring reloading the bootloader through JTAG.

If this does not work, it may have somehow corrupted the bootloader and you will need to follow the instructions in section 3.11 JTAG Flash Programming on page 58 of EVM Guide.

I am sorry for the difficulties you have been encountering.

  • Hi Fizix,

thanks a lot, I followed steps 1-4 and it works (I assumed you mean the HOLDboot Jumper at J12, not J11). Thanks again for helping me out so quickly. I hope it will all work properly now!

  • Gabriel,

Thank you for letting us know.

You are correct that for the dual DLPC900 EVM the jumper is J12.  I was thinking of the single DLPC900 EVM.
