DLP3310: Could the DLPLCR3310EVM used for a 3D SL application?

Part Number: DLP3310
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP3010EVM-LC, , DLPDLCR3310EVM

Hello,

Can we use DLPLC3310EVM for 3D structured light applications? It is not labeled as "-LC" (Light Control) but as "display". Our application requires funcions such as triggering by a camera, storing scan patterns in the system memory, and controlling the optical parameters (gain, color, and timing of projected patterns). This unit has a smaller footprint in comparison to DLP3010EVM-LC so all are equal, we prefer DLP3310EVM to the latter if it works as an LC device.

Thank you,

Cem

  • Hello Cem,

Welcome to the E2E forum and thank you for your interest in DLP technology!

Generally speaking, the DLP3310 does not support light control or structured light applications. The light control chipsets are designed specifically to synchronize with external triggers for cameras and sensors with the ability to generate patterns at up to 2500 Hz for image captures. By contrast, the 3310 and its EVM are able to project images at up to 120 Hz.

From your description, I would suggest that the DLP3010-LC would be the better platform for the intended application.

    Austin

  • Thanks Austin. Just to be specific, even if one were ok with a slower frame rate, the 3310 EVM does not provide any hardware external triggering pathway (trig in or trig out) when projecting a saved imaged?

  • Hello,

The DLPDLCR3310EVM does not have the capability to use external triggers.

If you look at the DLP3010EVM-LC guide here, page 8 section 7.3 you will see that these are the required I/O that is needed for external triggers.

This is specifically a Light Control feature and will not appear in display chipset documentation.
